Darlene Ann Sier

September 25, 1951 – December 2, 2025

Darlene Ann Sier (Rippeon), of Erwin, NC, passed away early in the morning of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Duke University Hospital, in Durham, NC. She was 74 years young.

Born on September 25, 1951, in Frederick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Grayson Leroy Rippeon, Sr., and Annabelle Grimes May (formerly Rippeon).

Darlene married Roy (aka Lightnin’) on January 12th, 1968, soon becoming a mother to two children, Roy Lee and Rita. In the early years of her career, Darlene was employed by Geico, and later Ma-Com Telecommunications (now known as Hughes Network Systems), of Germantown, Md., which started her long career as an electronics assembler. Darlene and Roy relocated to Garner, North Carolina, in the mid-nineties, where she was employed by EMc2 and later Nortel Networks Corporation (Nortel).

Darlene loved her family and was always interested in knowing all of the recent details about her grandchildren & great-grandson’s happenings, and her siblings; she loved receiving updates and pictures of her family and attending the occasional birthday party or dinner, when she was feeling well and able to do so. She also loved her dog, her sweet Sallie. She enjoyed drawing, painting, any kind of DIY project and antique/thrift shopping, where she liked to collect anything that was “unusual” and vintage.

Darlene is survived by her children, Roy Lee Sier, Jr., and Rita Frickman Badgett and husband, Guy; her grandchildren, Michael Allen Frickman and wife, Amanda, Ryan Wesley Badgett, Amanda Nikole Frickman and husband, Jonah, Brandon Carle Badgett, Branden Leroy Sier and Bradley Alan Sier; her great-grandson, Connor Lee Frickman; two sisters, Cindy Rippeon-Kehne and husband, Kevin, Kathy Baugher and husband, Marty; three brothers, Grayson Leroy Rippeon, Jr. and wife, Lynn, Terry Rippeon and wife, Kathy, and Michael Rippeon and wife, Sheila; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Sier, Sr., in June of 2016, daughter-in-law, Rosie Michelle Abrecht, in November of 2016, and her sister, Brenda Lee Landis, in September of 2020.

Darlene will fondly be remembered by her lifelong friends, Linda Kuykendall (Burns), of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Leon & Donna Cannon, of Keedysville, Maryland, and Mildred (Millie) Alling, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Darlene will be cremated in Raleigh, North Carolina, by R.M. Ferguson Funeral Services.
