David Blandford Burroughs, 84, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away August 14th 2025. Born August 5th, 1941 in Washington D.C., he was the son of John Armistead and Katharine (O’Toole) Burroughs.
A graduate of St. John’s College High School (1959) and Georgetown University (1963), Mr. Burroughs served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He married Mary Ammon, and together they raised four children. He is survived by his wife Mary, children David, Theresa Gardiner (Douglas), John (Elizabeth), Matthew (Amanda) and grandchildren Maddox, Mark, Taylor and Patrick.
Mr. Burroughs was a pioneer in hospitality technology. He worked for various software companies before starting his own in 1977. He is credited with creating some of the first property management systems used worldwide. His innovations included Datahost, Innstar/Carahost, and Visual One, systems that shaped the hotel industry. In later years, he founded the Roads and Rails Museum in Frederick, home to one of the world’s largest model train displays. He donated to many Catholic and local charities and was a support of Smile Train and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and visionary whose work touched both his industry and his community.
Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Tuesday September 2, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 East 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Wednesday September 3, 2025 at 11am. Interment will follow at St. John’s Historic Cemetery, Frederick.
