David J. Swencki

Jul 14, 1948 — Jul 25, 2026

Frederick

David John Swencki, 78, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, following a brief stay at Kline Hospice House and surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 14, 1948, in Racine, Wisconsin, David lived most of his life in Racine before relocating to Frederick, Maryland, in 2015. He was a man of quiet pride and deep loyalties.

David served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, and served as a Military Policeman. His military service was a source of great personal pride and remained a defining chapter of his life.

Following his service, David built a long and dedicated career with S.C. Johnson and Son, where he spent the majority of his professional life before retiring. He was a devoted member of the Racine German Club for many years, serving on its board, and a proud participant in the Racine Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 1964 to 1967 — a formative experience that ignited a lifelong love of drum and bugle corps. He remained a passionate fan of the activity throughout his life. He loved music and WWII and Civil War history and could most often be seen puttering around his yard.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Laurel R. (Gumz) Swencki; his daughters, Lisa S. Zajac (Jonathan) and Sharon A. Swencki; his grandchildren, Jordan T. Zajac, Lilian S. Theby, and Nicholas A. Theby; and his sister, Kathleen Ohmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester E. Swencki and Helen C. (Sabo) Swencki, and his brother, Jeffrey Swencki.

The family is grateful for and would like to recognize the loving care that he received from the staff at Frederick Health Hospital and Kline Hospice House in his final weeks.
