Donald Stuart Henderson

Mr. Donald S. "Don" Henderson, 83, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026. He was the loving husband of Carole Henderson for 53 years. Born July 26, 1943 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elvina Henderson.

Don attended St. Charles College then Mt St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg. He earned a BA in Philosophy followed by graduate studies in English, Music Theology, Music Education, and Liturgy.

Don was a Music Director for 30 years at Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City and earned the Archdiocesan Medal of Honor for extraordinary service. He also taught religion, English, and Latin at Archbishop Curley High School and Cardinal Gibbons High School.

Don enjoyed nature in any form and family above all. He was thoroughly devoted to Carole with whom he was to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary. Don was quoted as saying in an interview,” I will always be a minister, if not of music than of something else. That is my vocation. The only condition is that Carole has to be part of the package. As I have said … we are a team.” “I try to live each day for Christ.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Stuart Henderson (Julie), Irene Allesee (Erik), Matthew Henderson (Rebecca) and Erica Henderson, grandchildren; Brigit Wood (Garrett), Iain Henderson, Patrick Henderson, Lillian Henderson, Dylan Allesee, Kaiden Allesee, Luisa Henderson, Oscar Henderson and Rosalie Henderson, numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his son, John Henderson and siblings; Thomas Henderson and J. Gregory Henderson (Karen).

The Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 22nd at Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Inurnment will be at later date.
