Donald E. Wasserman, 82, of Frederick, passed Wednesday December 22, 2021. Born April 1, 1939 to the late Arthur and Eva (nee Berkowitz) Wasserman. He was the beloved husband to Helen Wasserman for 54 years.
A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Donald rose from poverty to become a well-respected and world renowned scientist. As a teenager he helped work on early models of the pacemaker and fetal heart monitors at Yale University Medical School. In his long professional life as a biomedical engineer he was instrumental in developing international health standards regarding vibration related injuries. Donald had 143 scientific papers and 3 books published over his career which are now housed at the Library of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Donald will be remembered for his sharp wit, inspiring presence, and as a friend to many. He was always available to lend an ear to anyone who needed someone to listen.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Melissa Bender (Matthew) and Sherri Wasserman, his grandchildren; Jake Bender and Alex Bender, his brother Joel Wasserman (Leslie), nephews Robert Wasserman (Leigh) and Aaron Wasserman (Cami), niece Suzanne Wasserman (Chad) and numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Gardens of Remembrance Memorial Park, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871, on Sunday December 26, 2021 at 11am. Rabbi Jordan Hersh is to officiate. It will be livestreamed via the Gardens of Remembrance website.
