Doris Elaine DeLauter (Knott), devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful friend, passed away on April 9, 2026. She carried the values of compassion and dedication throughout her life, touching the hearts of many, while leaving behind a legacy of generosity and unwavering love for her family.
Born on November 7, 1945 in Martinsburg, WV, Doris was the beloved daughter of the late Calvin and Almira Knott.
Doris shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Wayne “Casey” DeLauter of Frederick, a partnership built on love, commitment, and enduring friendship. Together, they raised a family that was the center of her world. She is survived by her three children: Cheryl DeLauter of Frederick; Chris DeLauter and his significant other, Cheryl Mullaney of Frederick; and Stephanie Bittner and her husband, Christopher Bittner of Keedysville.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, treasured watching them grow, and was incredibly proud of each of them: Andrew DeLauter and Claire DeLauter, both of Frederick; and Casey, Savannah, and Christiana Bittner of Keedysville.
Doris is also survived by her two sisters, Cynthia Millard of Winchester, Virginia, and Janet Sherman of Hedgesville, West Virginia, along with many nieces, extended family members, and close friends who will miss her dearly.
For over 30 years, Doris dedicated herself to her work with Frederick County Public Schools, where she made a lasting impact. Beyond her career, she was actively involved in numerous local charities and was known for her generous spirit. Doris found great joy in giving to others and always ready to lend a helping hand.
In lieu of flowers the family would encourage donations to the Scott Key Center Frederick or Shepherd Gridiron Club at Shepherd University.
A private family graveside service will be held Friday, April 17, 2026. Family attending should plan to meet by 10:30am at the old chapel at the entrance of Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick for directions to the gravesite.
Friends and family are invited to join in the celebration of Doris’s life at Dutches Daughter’s on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 1pm.
