Gwendolyn Bausum

December 28, 1939 — February 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce that Gwendolyn Jordan Bausum went to be with her Lord on February 7, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on December 28, 1939, in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late Dewey T Jordan and Lorene Weber Jordan. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert P Jordan and Kenneth R Jordan, her loving husband of 52 years, Howard T Bausum, and her granddaughter Ariel Pettas.

Gwen's journey began in North Carolina but took her to various places, before settling in Frederick, Maryland as a teen. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1957 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Hood College in 1963. She married Howard Bausum in August of 1960 and they were happily married just over 52 years, until his death in 2013.

Gwen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, relishing her role as a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed baking, gardening, bible study, and solving crossword (sudoku) puzzles. She had a quick wit and though encountering numerous challenges throughout her life, she remained resilient and steadfast in her faith, inspiring all who knew her with her unwavering strength.

Gwen is survived by her three children: David H Bausum (Michelle) of Hagerstown, MD, Susan L Bausum Pettas of Georgia, and Richard J Bausum (Erika) of Kentucky. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Jonathan Bausum, Julia Bausum, Christopher Pettas, Sarah Pettas, Anastasia Bausum, Josiah Bausum, Rachel Bausum, Rebekah Bausum, Micah Bausum, Isaiah Bausum, and Aliyah Bausum and a great-granddaughter Reagan Lee Bausum.

Gwen is also survived by her sister Kathy Jordan Holcomb (Jerry), several nieces, nephews and cousins - including Laura Bausum Donaldson, who was extremely involved in Gwen’s life - and many cherished friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Gwen's life will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:00am at South End Baptist Church in Frederick, Maryland where she was a member for many years.
