Mr. Hubert Lee Winpigler, 87, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He was the loving husband of Eleanor Clabaugh Winpigler for 68 years.
Born June 29, 1938 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Charles "Ed" Winpigler Sr. and wife Inez Betson Winpigler.
Hubert was a graduate of St. John's Literary Institute in 1956. He dedicated his life to running, owning, and operating the family business, C. Edward Winpigler & Sons, with his brothers for 50 years. He was an avid cardplayer and owned and raced thoroughbred horses. Hubert was a Master Mason of the Columbia Lodge, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He served as Governor of the Frederick Moose Lodge and was an officer in the Patriotic Club. He was a life member of Independent Fire Company. In his spare time, Hubert enjoyed playing, coaching and watching baseball, basketball and adult softball. Most of all, he enjoyed family life.
In addition to his wife, Hubert is survived by daughter Debra Winpigler Richmond (Mark), two nieces raised as daughters Misti Griffin and Alyvia Winpigler; grandchildren Stephanie Richmond, Gregory Richmond, and Vincent Lozupone; siblings David Winpigler (Carole), Judy Rice, Adrian Winpigler, Cynthia Ropp, Pamela Martin, Ramona Ridgely, Bion Winpigler (Billie), Shawn Winpigler (Becky), Coral Keller; sister-in-law Peggy Winpigler, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings Rhea Whitworth (Donald), Audrey Baker (Donald), Charles Winpigler Jr. and several sister and brother-in-laws.
The family will receive friends from 1pm to 4pm, on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will be held at 11am, on Monday, April 20, 2026 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
