James Elliot Wilkins, Sr., 80, of Thurmont, passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2024 at Heartfields Assisted Living. Born in Washington, D.C. on October 27, 1943 to the late James E. Wilkins and Mary T. Gregory. He was the beloved husband of Lydia M. Wilkins.
James was a police officer for District Heights, MD, for 8 years. He would go on to own Gateway Arcade for 5 years. Later James would work as an electrician as well as a carpenter for 15 years. He would also drive for Coyle Trucking until his retirement.
James volunteered with Planning and Zoning Commission, Thurmont, and was an election judge. He was a member of the Elks lodge of Frederick and Upper Marlboro, where he was an exalted ruler.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by; his children Jennifer A. Payne (Carl) and James E. Wilkins, Jr., his grandchildren; Robert Mitchell (Allie), Kayla Holtzclaw, Aaron Sutphin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Family and friends can gather at Jefferson Missionary Baptist Church, 4802 Broad Run Rd, Jefferson, MD 21755, on Saturday February 10, 2024 from 9am until the start of the funeral service at 10am. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to Jefferson Missionary Baptist Church.
