Joan (Joanie) Malloy, passed away peacefully at home with her husband Ron by her side. Joanie was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 28, 1947. She was the beloved daughter of the late William and Ruby Malloy and sister to the late William Malloy Jr. She is survived by her husband Lewis (Ron) DuPuis, her step-daughter Danielle DuPuis, daughter-in-law Dina Fehr, and her beloved grandchildren Riley, Avery and Emily. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ken DuPuis and his wife Gail and her cousin Jerry (Bo) Mahurin and his wife Karen who live in Colorado.
Joanie served in the United States Army as did her father and mother. She spent 32.5 years between full time active duty and active reserves. She attained the rank of colonel/06. She worked as a civilian at various Army bases including her final assignment at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington, D.C. She retired from the Army Reserves in July 2004 and from Civil Service in 2007.
Joanie loved to travel and in her retirement years, she and her husband Ron along with Ron's mother Ann and a friend visited England, Ireland and Scotland. Later she and Ann would travel to Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and Canada. Besides her husband, Ann was her favorite travel partner. She enjoyed the many bus trips with Ron that covered much of the United States, but most of all she enjoyed the local family trips to the national and state parks, lakes and Atlantic coast.
She enjoyed art and painted many portraits and landscapes with oil and watercolor. She gave most of these to her friends and family members. Her favorite was the one she did of Sparky, her loving Bichon Frise puppy.
She looked forward to the weekly services at Thurmont Methodist Church and Bible Studies twice a week. She was a devout Christian and loved Jesus. She was genuine and above all she was a proud soldier, who loved this country with all her heart. Joanie was 'the girl next door that every mother wanted their sons to marry' and I was the lucky one.
