Mrs. Joan Elizabeth (Larkin) McGinnis, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025. She was born August 15, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jane Larkin, and her husband, Michael McGinnis. She is survived by her daughter, Diane McGinnis Hainsworth, and husband, Christopher Hainsworth of Townsend, DE, and four grandchildren: Megan Elizabeth Hainsworth of Smyrna, DE, Mauri Cristen Hainsworth of Frederick, MD, Erin Michelle Hainsworth of Townsend, DE, and Michael Christopher Hainsworth of Townsend DE. She leaves behind many friends who will sadly miss her.
Joan was very involved in the Maryland golf community. She became part of the Maryland State Golf Association Women's Division when it was organized in 1995. Joan served as the Corresponding Secretary from 1997 to 1999 and Member-at-Large from 1999-2003. Joan became the Golf Course Sloping and Rating Leader for the Western Maryland Division and subsequently took responsibility for all Maryland State Golf Association tournaments as well as tournaments held by the Men's Washington Metropolitan Golf Association. She served on the Maryland Men's Golf Association Board as a Director at Large from 2005-2016.
Joan was also an accomplished golfer at Holly Hills Country Club, where she was the Ladies Club Champion for several years. She was instrumental in organizing the Holly Hills Ladies Golf Association. She was a competitor and participated in many tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region. Joan’s late husband, Mike McGinnis, was the longtime Pro at Holly Hills, and together, they were a fixture in local County, State, and regional golfing circles and tournaments.
Joan was a member of the Frederick County Association of Realtors, serving as a licensed Sales Associate for twenty-five years. Working with friends and new clients in securing home ownership with a friendly and down-to-earth attitude was a passion of hers.
Joan always enjoyed her social time, both on and off the golf course. Joan enjoyed playing Bridge and competing in Bridge tournaments, but she especially loved the “Girls Night Out” get-togethers with her friends.
A Celebration of Life is being planned at the family's convenience. Condolences can be sent to The Hainsworth Family, 235 Olivine Circle, Townsend, DE 19734.
