John Alexander Baker, Jr., 78 of Frederick died peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Frederick Crossing where he resided for 5 years.
John was born on December 7, 1946 in Frederick, Maryland to Eva Ruth Baker (nee’ Toms) and the late John Alexander Baker, Sr. John was raised in Frederick, attending Frederick High School and Boy Scouts. His working years were spent assembling bicycles at a local shop as well as Walmart, Asplundh Tree Service, Woodville Auto Parts and Mills on the Hill. He found his passion to be cooking and went to cook for I-70 Truck Stop, Snow White, White Star and Redman’s Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching old western movies, riding his bike, fishing and drinking his favorite soft drink, Pepsi. In retirement, he relished watching rabbits, squirrels and birds on the lawn. He missed his favorite dog, Princess.
In addition to his mother Eva, John is survived by his son john Alexander Baker, III, his sister Vickey Toms, nephew Robert E. Toms, Jr. (Mary Ann) niece Brenda L. Lenhart (David), eight grandnieces and nephews and 17 great-grandnieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his late father as well as his paternal grandparents, Rhonda Estelle Staub Baker and John Lewis Baker; his maternal grandparents Leona Mae Green Toms and LeRoy Eyster Toms and his brother-in-law Robert E. Toms, Sr.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Keeney & Basford Funeral Homes, P.A. 106 E. Church St. Frederick, Maryland 21701. A graveside committal will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025 @ 11:30 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mtn. Hwy. Frederick, MD. 21701.
