The Possum Lodge lost one of its greatest members on November 20, 2022, when John William Mount, 68, died after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was born to the late Maurice and Naomi Mount on September 24, 1954 in Frederick, MD.
He was the loving husband of Deborah Mount for 32 years. We will all remember him as a true gem of a man. John graduated from Linganore High School in 1972 and earned degrees from Frederick Community College and Liberty University. He retired in 2019 after a long career as a lab technician at Ft. Detrick. He was most recently a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his stepdaughter, Tracey Lambert (who gave him lots of gray hair), adoring grandson Eugene Lambert, brothers David Mount and Steven Mount, brother-in-law Ray Frank (Cathy Karl), nieces Joanie Frank (John Bartell), Julie Frank (Mick Montague) and Erin Harris (Jamie Harris), grandniece Jackie Bartell, grandnephews Sage Wolfe and Jude Harris, rescue chihuahua sidekick, Tippy, and numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Martha and Albert Thobois, sister-in-law Carol Frank, grandniece Jenna Bartell, and grandnephew Nico Harris. John enjoyed feeding the critters who frequented his yard, reading books, watching the Three Stooges, shopping for bargains, and watching televised Sumo tournaments. He also enjoyed being a member of Ollie’s Army and picking up menus from new restaurants...you know, just for the heck of it.
John recently started cooking new recipes and loved talking about what he planned to try next. The last cooking adventure he didn’t get to take was for a turkey meatloaf if you‘d like to try it in his memory.
2 lbs. ground turkey
2 eggs
1 box Stovetop stuffing
Mix all with 1/2 cup ketchup
Put in baking dish add 1/2 cup ketchup as a glaze and bake for one hour at 350.
He didn’t like anyone making a fuss over him, but he wouldn’t want you to go hungry. He made every recipe his own, so feel free to wing it! As Red Green said, “I’m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess,” and “Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati.”
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 1 to 4 p.m. and hold the Funeral Service on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Keeney-Basford Funeral Home, 106, East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Frederick County Animal Shelter.
