Mr. John Martin Zell, 80, of Floral City, FL passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He is survived by long time companion, Mary Lou Eaton.
Born November 8, 1944 in Cheverly, MD, he was the son of the late John and Elsie Loy Zell.
John worked for over 40 years at Navy Federal Credit Union where he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, hiking, backpacking and bike riding. He was a World traveler and loved his Airstream Camper. John enjoyed speed skating at Bladensburg Skate Rink. He was a multiple time Regional Champion and competed in many National Championship competitions. John ran multiple Marine Corps. Marathons, which he credits preparation and endurance as the key. Most of all, he loved his family and friends.
John is survived by his daughters, Kristin Wise (Rob Stevens) and Jennifer Harrison (Chris), grandchildren, Cody Wise, Harley Wise, Abby Crown, Kelsey Crown, Cadie Scroggs, Noah Harrison, step-grandchildren, Chris Harrison Jr. and Zachary Harrison, siblings, Nancy Dillon, Billy Zell (Sue) and Patty Jackson, half sister, Maryann Gilliam, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 2pm, on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Celebration of life will follow at 2pm. Casual dress is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's Name to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
