Jose Maria Travez of Urbana, MD passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on October 23rd, 2025, at the age of 88. Jose was born in 1937 in Tanicuchi, Ecuador located near the grand Cotopaxi white cap volcano to the late Alberto and Josefina Travez, and he was the youngest of six children, with one brother Claudio, and four sisters Clemencia, Imelda, Lola, and Mira. Jose received an academic scholarship to the Don Bosco School in Quito, Ecuador, where he earned a degree in humanities and a degree in manufacturing. In 1960, Jose married Celina Amparo Vargas, and they have three children, Jose Vladimir Travez, Rina (Travez) McLaughlin and Italo Danilo Travez.

In 1966, Jose emigrated to the United States to work as a machinist in support of the US defense and space program build-up. He worked for over 50 years and during that time, he manufactured parts for the Apollo space program, the B1B bomber, surgical simulation devices, and other critical defense and space programs. Jose loved animals, soccer, music and classic cars, but most of all, he loved spending time with his 3 grandkids and watching them participate and compete in their different sports, from soccer to gymnastics, rugby and cheer.

Jose, also called "Tata" by his grandkids, is survived by his wife and three children, along with his sister Clemencia Villacis, his daughter-in-law Monica (Rodman) Travez, son-in-law Don McLaughlin, grandson Corbett McLaughlin, granddaughter Marisol McLaughlin, and granddaughter Catherine Travez. Tata, with his kind humility and friendly smile, will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A Funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, October 30th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, Ijamsville, MD, followed by interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery 515 S. Market Street, Frederick, MD. 21701. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Frederick, MD Humane Society.

José María Travez, de Urbana, Maryland, falleció pacíficamente en su hogar, rodeado de sus seres queridos, el 23 de octubre de 2025, a la edad de 88 años.
José nació en 1937 en Tanicuchí, Ecuador, cerca del majestuoso volcán de cumbre nevada Cotopaxi. Fue hijo de los fallecidos Alberto y Josefina Travez, y el menor de seis hermanos: su hermano Claudio y sus hermanas Clemencia, Imelda, Lola y Mira.
José recibió una beca académica para estudiar en la Escuela Don Bosco en Quito, Ecuador, donde obtuvo un título en humanidades y otro en manufactura. En 1960, José contrajo matrimonio con Celina Amparo Vargas, y juntos tuvieron tres hijos: José Vladimir Travez, Rina (Travez) McLaughlin e Ítalo Danilo Travez.
En 1966, José emigró a los Estados Unidos para trabajar como maquinista en apoyo al programa de defensa y al desarrollo espacial del país. Trabajó por más de 50 años y, durante ese tiempo, fabricó piezas para el programa espacial Apolo, el bombardero B1B, dispositivos de simulación quirúrgica y otros programas espaciales y de defensa de importancia crítica.
José amaba a los animales, el fútbol, la música y los autos clásicos, pero sobre todo disfrutaba pasar tiempo con sus tres nietos y verlos participar y competir en sus distintos deportes, desde fútbol hasta gimnasia, rugby y porras (cheerleading).
José, a quien sus nietos llamaban cariñosamente “Tata”, deja a su esposa y a sus tres hijos, además de su hermana Clemencia Villacís, su nuera Mónica (Rodman) Travez, su yerno Don McLaughlin, su nieto Corbett McLaughlin, su nieta Marisol McLaughlin y su nieta Catherine Travez.
Tata, con su amable humildad y su sonrisa sincera, será profundamente extrañado por su familia y sus amigos.
La Misa fúnebre por José se celebrará el jueves 30 de octubre a las 11:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica St. Ignatius of Loyola en Ijamsville, Maryland, seguida del entierro en el Cementerio Mt. Olivet, en el centro de Frederick, Maryland.
