Kathleen Theresa Marrone

Kathleen Theresa Marrone, née McCanner, died peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 2, at the age of 106, in the retirement community of Buckingham’s Choice, Adamstown, MD. Born in Frederick on June 16, 1920, she was the daughter of Franklin and Margaret (Houff) McCanner and spent all her life as a resident either in Frederick or at Buckingham’s Choice. In 1941 she married Samuel Marrone, also of Frederick, and they had three children: Samuel Robert, born 1943; Steven Phillip, born 1947; and Timothy Scott, born 1957.

A devoted mother, Kathleen stayed at home during the formative years of her children’s life, but in the late 1960s she served as a teacher’s assistant for elementary students at the Maryland School for the Deaf. Her husband Samuel died in 1996, and in 2000 she sold her house on Frederick Avenue in Frederick and moved into Buckingham’s Choice, being one of its inaugural residents. There she progressed from cottage living to an apartment, then to assisted living, and finally to the nursing facility.

During her years in Frederick, she was an active member of the Homemakers Club. At Buckingham’s Choice, she energetically participated in numerous groups and clubs, contributing to the social life of the community. An avid reader, she was also a pianist, and she spent her life as an enthusiastic follower of the visual arts and music.

Kathleen is survived by her three sons, two daughters-in-law Jane Monagan Marrone and Jennifer Rende, Steven’s partner Jean Wu, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
