Kelly Marie Winpigler, 58, passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2026 at her beach house in West Ocean City, Maryland.
Born on August 4, 1967 to Jean Delores Covell Delashmutt, Kelly was a long-time resident of Walkersville, Maryland and graduated from Walkersville High School in 1985. During her time in high school she played field hockey, was a member of the marching band and formed some of her closest friendships. Kelly began working at State Farm Insurance in Frederick in 1985 and continued working there until 2019, when State Farm closed its offices in Frederick and she retired. She held numerous positions over her long career at State Farm in claims adjustment and underwriting. Never one to sit still, Kelly began working for State Farm agent, James Brown, in 2020 and continued working there until her passing. Kelly met the love of her life, David Eugene Winpigler, Jr, in the early 1990s and they married in 2000, settling in her hometown of Walkersville. In 2005, she met the second love of her life when her son, Aaron David Winpigler, was born. Kelly was a devoted mom and you could find her and David cheering Aaron on from the stands at the baseball fields from the time Aaron was in elementary school, all the way through high school. Kelly made friends everywhere she went and the baseball fields were no exception. She made lifelong friends who became like family during those
years of cheering for Aaron from the sidelines. Kelly had many things to be proud of, but she was most proud of her son, Aaron.
Kelly and David were season ticket holders for the Baltimore Ravens and spent many Sundays at the stadium watching them play and of course, making friends with the strangers around her. They went to opening day for the Orioles almost every year and enjoyed running into friends at Camden Yards. David was an avid softball player and Kelly was right there beside him, traveling to tournaments over the years and making friends along the way. No matter where Kelly went, she ran into someone she knew. If she didn’t know anyone when she walked in, she was guaranteed to have several new friends when she left.
Kelly, known affectionally as “Reba”, “Seven” and “Crazy Kelly” by her friends and family, liked music, live bands and going to concerts because she loved to dance. She danced everywhere she went, smiling that beautiful smile that everyone loved. But what she loved the most was being at their beach house with her friends and family. She took
annual trips to the beach with friends and spent as much time there as she could during the summer. Kelly and David bought a boat and cruising the bay quickly became one of her favorite past times. The beach house was her happy place, and she was surrounded by her White Horse Park family in the neighborhood.
Kelly will be remembered by so many people, for so many reasons. She loved her friends and family fiercely, especially David and Aaron. She was spunky, she was wild, she was always smiling and laughing and dancing. She cracked jokes and made everyone around her laugh. But she was sensitive and hated to see anyone she loved in pain. She never hid her emotions – whether she was celebrating a friend or family member’s achievement or holding them close during times of sadness. She was unapologetically herself wherever she went, with whoever surrounded her and that’s why we loved her. The memories she made with her friends and family will last forever. She made all of us better people.
In addition to David and Aaron, Kelly is survived by a brother, Bryan Covell (Linda), and children Eric, Stacy and Rebecca; her nephew Adair Covell; her mother and father-in-law, David and Carole Winpigler; brother in law Michael Winpigler (Jenny), and children Caylee, Linsey, Sidney and Cashton; cousins Donnie and Debbie Poole, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and some newfound family members that filled a place in her heart. Her closest friends Steve and Cheryl Crawford were also a part of her family, and they will miss her and love her forever.
Kelly will be greatly missed by her family, numerous friends and her beloved dog, Gloria (Gigi). A Celebration of Life will be held July 31, 2026 at 5 pm at the Amvets Farm
located at 9602 Baltimore Road, Frederick, MD.
