Kirk Bradley Bowers died on April 28, 2025 in Frederick, Maryland. The 25- year partner and 5-year husband of R. Steele Michael. Kirk was born in Los Angeles, CA. to the late Herbert Lyle Shinpaugh and the late Judith Allen Simmons. He was adopted into the home of the late Karl Eugene Bowers and the late Elda Bowers of Yakima, WA who raised and cherished him.
Kirk earned his B.A. in Theatre Production arts in 2004 from Central Washington University. He worked as an aerospace mechanic for Boeing in the Seattle area for a time. However, his passion for theatre drew him to a career change, working with infectious enthusiasm in the theatre. As an accomplished actor, director and costumer, he relocated to Frederick, Maryland where he co-owned the former Charelle's Costumes renamed Stage and Screen, Inc. retiring in 2018 following its sale.
Kirk was passionate about the theatre arts, winning multiple awards for acting and costuming. He was a veritable encyclopedia of musical theatre, film as well as a tireless genealogist who specialized in assisting adoptees reconnect with their biological families.
A celebration of Kirk’s life will be held in the near future, both here in Frederick County and also in Yakima, WA.
