Lorraine Kalfayan Marina

Lorraine Kalfayan Marina passed away peacefully on the evening of December 9, 2025, in Frederick, MD.

A distinguished student at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, she received her Masters degree in Education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

After college, Lorraine moved to New York City where she taught middle school. She later met and married Walter William Frederick, MD (deceased) and moved to Lake Placid, NY where they raised their two daughters, Nicole Frederick and Dana Frederick (deceased.)

Lorraine eventually moved to Ocean Ridge, FL where she met and married Dr. William (Bill) Frank Marina (deceased.) They moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fl where she was an active volunteer for the Friends of the Library in the city of Ft. Lauderdale.

Lorraine and Bill retired in Asheville, NC, where Lorraine continued her volunteering work at the Chamber of Commerce and Memorial Mission Hospital. She also was an avid supporter of the Asheville Humane Society and dog rescuer.

Lorraine loved to entertain and was a gourmet cook. She was happiest being surrounded by friends and family. Lorraine is survived by Nicole Frederick (daughter), Virginia Marina (stepdaughter), Craig Marina (stepson), Anita Cheske (stepdaughter) and her grandchildren, William and Tavish Kerr, Austin and Ella Hoogenboezem, Jessie and Tim Reese as well as her nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by her many loved ones. To honor her lifelong love of dogs, donations in Lorraine’s name may be made to the American Humane Society. https://www.americanhumane.org/

At the family’s request, there will be a private memorial service at a later date.
