Mary Geisbert

Mary Virginia “Bunny” Geisbert passed away on July 31, 2026 in Sun City, Arizona. She was 100 years old. Mary was the loving wife of the late Hamilton (Ham) Geisbert for 75 years. She was also preceded in death by her sister Lucille Cissel and her brother William (Bill) Strosnider. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1944 and married Ham soon afterwards. She worked for the Federal Government for 30 years, beginning her career as a clerk typist and advancing to senior Budget Officer and Administrative Officer positions in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. She was extremely proud of her work in the early
years of the government’s Equal Opportunity and Federal Women’s Programs. She served in a variety of leadership positions within those programs including Assistant Deputy Director of the NIH Equal Employment Opportunity Office, and Director of the Federal Women’s Program for a major Department within the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. After Mary and Ham retired, they moved to Sun City AZ in 1978.

An adventurous soul, Mary loved to travel. Before retirement, she and Ham traveled in the United States, frequently to Arizona, and abroad. After retirement, Mary and Ham were enthusiastic members of the Sun City Travel Trailer Club, traveling with friends across the US, Canada, Mexico and even flying to New Zealand for an RV tour of the countryside. Her stories
about their many trips entertained and inspired her family. One of her favorite trips included rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon when she was 70 years old.

In addition to traveling, Mary stayed busy with a variety of other interests. She was President of the Sun City Diabetes Lioness Club and co-founder of the Sun City Investment Club. She loved animals, especially Boston Terriers, and for many years she and Ham had one of those little black and white dogs in their home. The dogs were family and always traveled with them in
their mobile home. Mary and Ham were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Sun City. Mary also enjoyed painting, writing, boating, and overseas cruises.

She will be deeply missed by family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 11AM.  Those wishing to attend
should meet inside the main gate of the Cemetery by 10:45. Arrangements are being made by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
