Mary "Libby" Groff

Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Groff, 86, went to judgement on April 22, 2026, blessed with a life of family, and long standing teaching career.

Libby was born on December 30, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of deceased Meredith and Lucy Esworthy. Libby was the wife of the late Dr. Henry Allen Groff, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2017.

Mrs. Groff is survived by three daughters: Meda Elizabeth Groff (James Corkum), Kelly Roxanne Groff (Shawn McMahon) and Melinda Sue Groff (John Mainville). There are seven wonderful grandchildren: Tyler James Corkum, Abigail Elizabeth Corkum, John Spencer Corkum, Matthew Patrick White, Stephen Michael White, Brooks Henry Warrenfeltz and Brianna Mary Warrenfeltz. She is also survived by two nieces, Suzanne DiSogra, Julie Ann D’Antonio, and nephew John Allen Groff. She is survived by her sister Joan Shaff (Chris), a niece, and nephew. She was predeceased by her sister Patricia Newman. 

Libby received her undergraduate degree and master's in education from Hood College in 1978 over the course of several years. She taught for 30 years at South Frederick Elementary school where she had a rewarding career before retiring in 2004. She loved tending her garden, spending time with her grandchildren, caring each day for a lively assortment of birds, and watching deer in the field. She also deeply valued the friendships she formed with her fellow teachers.

Libby led her life through faith. She was a longstanding member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and served as the official editor of the church bulletin. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Frederick for many years.

Visitation is Tuesday, April 28 from 10-11am at the Keeney Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment will be private.
