Patsy (Pat) Ann Whittington Young (88) passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at Sunrise Sr. Living. Patsy was born on March 25, 1937 to Douglas and Anne Whittington in Jefferson, MD. She was the first of 8 children. She was the wife of Fred W. Young, Jr. for 66 years before his death in 2021. They had 3 children, Dale, Susan and Douglas. They lived and worked their whole lives in Frederick County, MD. Patsy was a graduate of Frederick High School in 1955. She worked at Sears in downtown Frederick, then at Sinclair Oil. Patsy and Fred opened their own business, Fredericktown Kitchen and Bath, in 1975. They designed and remodeled many new kitchens and baths throughout Frederick County for over 30 years.
Patsy was an accomplished seamstress. She loved to look at fashion designs and then create her own. She made clothing for all her family and friends. She created handbags, hats, jackets, custom draperies and just about anything you could sew. Patsy was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to garden and her yard was always in bloom and her kitchen filled with fresh vegetables. Patsy always kept her hands and mind busy with knitting, crosswords and puzzles and learning new technology. Patsy took up golf in her late 50’s and played well into her 80’s. She volunteered with the Frederick Health Hospitals Select Seconds Shop in downtown Frederick for many years. Patsy and Fred loved to travel and had many adventures throughout the years. Patsy was a wonderful friend to many, a nurturing Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, a kind Sister and a loving wife. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to others. Patsy was always willing to try something new, go on an adventure, or be a part of a group of fun people.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Susan McGinnis, husband Bob, her daughter-in-law Melanie Young, her beloved Grandchildren, Emily McGinnis-Wilkins (George), Adam McGinnis (Sarra), Samantha McGinnis, Derek Young and her very special Great Grandchildren, Indi McGinnis, Juniper Wilkins, Serena McGinnis, her sisters Lynn Roberts and Cathy Slaughter and many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Fred, her sons, Dale and Douglas, her brothers David, Jay and Richard, her sisters Barbara and Judy. Family was everything to her. She also left behind her best girlfriends, Pat, Nancy, Florence, Dotty & Delores who loved her dearly.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home at 106 E Church St. Frederick, MD. at 2 pm. Interment is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in her name can be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701. A special “Thank You” to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for the gentle loving care you gave her during her stay. What a wonderful group of caregivers!
