It is with great sadness that the children of Randolph Lee Davis (who went by Randy but to his family and friends was "PAP") announce that he ended his journey with us and went to be with the Lord our Savior on August 22, 2023. His children were by his side. Born February 23, 1935, in Yellow Springs, MD, he was the son of the late Ray M. & Viola Davis.
He was the devoted husband of Mary Louise (Hawker) Davis for 59 years and 11 months.
He was the most incredible father to his 2 children Bonnie Griffith and Randy Davis. There was never a project that either was involved in that he wasn't there to help. He was their 'hero'.
Randy lived his entire life in Yellow Springs until the last few months when he moved to South Carolina for his children to care for him. In later years he enjoyed spending winters in Port Orange with his daughter and her husband.
He ran track in school, was in cub scouts and later turned to boxing; traveling to Baltimore for matches.
He was always an avid outdoorsman and spent many years hunting and fishing with his father and son, Randy. His parents had a cabin along the Potomac River at Edward’s Ferry. He always said they were “the best years”. In addition, he loved water sports, camping at Lake Anna, playing golf and he was a very talented woodworker.
Randy spent 35 years working at Airpax and retired from there in 1990. Prior to Airpax, he worked as a carpenter and at Oxfiber Brush Company.
He fought many battles with his health. He was a cancer survivor, but this disease was a battle he couldn’t win.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2014, his son-in-law Randall Griffith in 2020, his grandson Ben Cooper in 2022, and his brother Ray M. Davis, Jr. in 1930.
He is survived by his children Bonnie Griffith and Randy Davis, his grandchildren, Brittany Semkiw (Brian), Amanda Davis, and his great-grandchildren Brayden Cooper, Bristol Cooper, Charlotte Semkiw, and his sibling Charles Davis and granddaughter-in-law; Kelli Cooper.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Heartfields Assisted Living in Frederick for the care and kindness shown to their father during his stay.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his memory to The Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
