It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Sally Lawrence Ward, on August 15, 2025. Sally (88) was born in California, moved to the Washington Metropolitan area, married, and eventually settled in Olney, Maryland to raise her family.

Sally was the devoted wife of Leroy O. Ward. They were married in October 1956 and shared their lives happily together until his death in October 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents Esther Smith Lawrence and USN Rear Admiral Martin Jay Lawrence Sr; brother Martin Jay Lawrence Jr; stepbrother USN Commander George R. Weeks Jr; and infant grandson Daniel Ward.

In her early years she earned her nursing degree and worked at Garfield Hospital in Washington, D.C., shortly thereafter she became a devoted stay-at-home-Mom. Later she became well known for her 20+ years as a manager with the Olney and Laytonsville Antique Shops. In her spare time, she had many hobbies she enjoyed with her friends (e.g., antiquing, gardening and crafting). She also participated in community activities (e.g., school volunteer, church, Garden Club, and Sandy Spring Museum supporter). Sally, who was known for her engaging smile and hospitality, enjoyed entertaining family and friends and gathering for each and every holiday.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Paul) Klingensmith, Cathy Privett, and Robert (Martha) Ward; grandsons, Paul (Kim) and Jeff Klingensmith, and Benton (Julia), Curtis, and Adam Ward; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bryleigh, Walter, and Hazel.

A private family service is planned in her remembrance at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.
