Scott John Saylor

Scott Saylor, 62, of Ijamsville, Maryland, passed away after a brief illness on August 5, 2026, at Frederick Health Hospital.

Born and raised in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, Scott was a standout athlete and accomplished football player. He was a First Team All-State football player and a Parade Magazine All-American Offensive Tackle. He was later inducted into the Whitehall High School Sports Hall of Fame. After graduating, Scott continued his football career at West Virginia University, where he played college football and met the love of his life before settling in Maryland.

Scott believed in giving back to the communities that became home to him and his family. He dedicated many years to coaching and mentoring young athletes, volunteering his time with Little League football in the Urbana and Damascus communities, as well as at Urbana High School. Through coaching, he shared not only his love of sports, but also the importance of teamwork, commitment, and showing up for others. His willingness to help and support those around him left a lasting impact on many families and young athletes.

Scott also spent many years working in the landscape industry and was a designer for Great American Landscapes in Clarksburg, Maryland.

Scott lived a full and joyful life, and he had a gift for making sure the people around him felt that same joy. He had a special love for fishing, the outdoors, family vacations, sports, and time spent together. Anyone who knew Scott knew he was the king of the grill and master of the tailgate feast, always ready to feed a crowd, tell a story, and make memories along the way.

Above all else, Scott was devoted to his family. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by the people he loved. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He treasured watching them grow, cheering them on, making them laugh, and creating memories they will carry with them forever.

Scott is survived by his wife and life partner of 44 years, Lori (Fatzie) Saylor; his children, Erik Saylor (Catie) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Samantha Delauter (Ryan) of Smithsburg, Maryland; and his beloved grandchildren, Caden, Easton, Owen, Everleigh, and Hallie.

He is also survived by his father, Richard Saylor, of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; stepmother, Beverly Saylor; and siblings, Christopher Saylor (Chrissy) and Tracey Frey (Butch). He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqulyn McKenzie.

Scott leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, family, community, and memories that will last a lifetime. He lived big, loved deeply, and never hesitated to lend a hand or be there for the people around him. His greatest accomplishments were not only on the football field or in his career, but in the family he built, the young lives he influenced, and the countless people who were better for having known him.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott's name, may be made to Hooked On Hope VB, to support children and their families affected by Childhood Cancer.
