Sharon Ann West

Dec 4, 1950 — Jul 19, 2026

Frederick

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon West, age 75, on July 19, 2026.

She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Scot Heinbaugh; her cherished grandchildren; Evan West and Emma Smith, her grandchildren’s father, Wesley Smith, and family friend and remarkable nurse, Heather Mathews. Sharon will also be remembered by her brothers, sisters, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.

She also cherished her faithful dachshund, Cocoa, whose companionship brought her endless comfort and joy.

A passionate special education teacher and administrator for many years in the Frederick County School System, she believed every child deserved to be seen, heard, and given the opportunity to succeed. She tirelessly advocated for countless children and their families, and helping those with the greatest needs was more than a career—it was her calling. The lives she touched through her compassion, patience, and unwavering dedication will continue to reflect her legacy for generations to come.

In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time in her flowers, The Garden Club and volunteering in the NICU. She loved holding the babies.

Above all, she loved her family. She shared a remarkable 55-year marriage with her beloved husband, Jack, whose passing earlier this year left an immeasurable void in her heart. Their love was the foundation of their lives together, carrying them through life’s celebrations and challenges. After losing him, life was never quite the same, and her heart was broken. Some love stories were never meant to end, we find comfort in believing they are together again.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Frederick Health Hospital, who cared for her with compassion and kindness during her final illness.

A celebration of her life will be held at a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Special Olympics of Maryland at P.O. Box 2157, Baltimore, MD, 21203-2157 in honor of Sharon West, whose life’s work was devoted to advocating for children with special needs and helping every child reach their fullest potential.
