Suzanna M. Spurrier was born on August 21, 1947 to Helen and Frank Mikisits in Bethlehem, PA. From an early age, Suzanna was a life-long learner and enjoyed music. She sang in church as a child and accompanied her father, who was a Hungarian folk artist, on the piano when he performed. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1965. She attended Mansfield State College and graduated in 1969 with a degree in Music Education. This is where her love of music and her skill as a teacher took off. Suzanna taught music in the Pennsylvania and Maryland public school systems for seven years. In 1973, she married Terry H. Spurrier of Frederick, MD. Over the next decades, she raised two children; continued giving piano lessons; and was an active member in various local churches, playing the organ / piano for services, acting as a youth group leader, and providing instruction for various age groups in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Suzanna corner-stoned her teaching career as a Christian pre-school instructor from 1989 until her retirement in 2011. She then moved back to Pennsylvania where she lived out the remainder of her life. Suzanna led by example and lived her life Christ-centered and humble. She will be remembered as an irreplaceable wife, mother, friend, and teacher. Suzanna is survived by her son and daughter, Markwood F. Spurrier and Helen G. Sweeney and son-in-law, Thomas W. Sweeney, Jr.
Burial services for Suzanna will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Friday September 26, 2025 at 11am. Those attending may gather at the FSK chapel prior to 11am.
