Jean Petzold Kessinger, of Frederick, passed away peacefully at Frederick Memorial Hospital on October 17, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born May 11, 1927 in Washington, D.C. and resided in Silver Spring, Maryland until 1991 when she moved to Frederick, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Jackson Arthur Kessinger, her son Donald A. Kessinger, her grandson Scott Walton, and her brother Robert (Louise) Petzold. She is survived by her children Sharon (Doug) Walton, Marilyn Kessinger, Sally (Jim) Phifer, John (Elaine) Kessinger, and Kristine (Roger) Schroeder; grandchildren John, Lauren (Bruce), Robin (Paul), Nicole, Keith, Kelly (James), Jimmie, Tyler (Brooke), Noah (Aurelia), Zachary; great grandchildren Ethan, Bruce, and Kolden and brothers Walter (Carol) Petzold and Richard (Delores) Petzold.
Jean was a wife and homemaker with avid interests in gardening and duck pin bowling. She spent much of her time volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader and Library Page and most recently with the Homewood Community and Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Select Seconds Thrift Shop and Pinkie Sewing group. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
A private memorial will take place before she is laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
