Carmi Webster Sayler, Jr

Mr. Carmi W. Sayler, Jr.79, of Frederick, passed away March 7, 2012. Born March 3, 1933, in Frederick, he was the son of Carmi W. Sayler Sr and Hattie L. Smith Sayler. He was a 1951 graduate of Frederick High School, and served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. After his service in the Air Force, He worked with Key Chevrolet on Patrick Street, and later as a sales associate with Prudential Insurance. Mr. Sayler later moved to Atlanta, GA and owned and operated a wheel weight company for a number of years, before returning to Frederick, where he owned and operated Drive Line Cleaning Systems, the first mobile based, truck mounted cleaning service in the area, which he operated for many years. Carmi was involved in early years with the Frederick Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the American Legion FSK Post 11; Frederick Lodge No. 684, B.P.O.E., and is a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, where he served as president, treasurer, & two terms as Lt. Governor for Division 9. He was also a member of MISGA and St. John's Lutheran Church in Creagerstown, MD. Carmi enjoyed golf and traveled often with friends to play and enjoyed spending time in Myrtle Beach, SC. In earlier years, he was also an avid trap shooter and participated in shooting circuits all around the area. He is survived by his children and spouses, Sheri & Bill Bestpitch; Carmi & Hallie Long Sayler; Kim & Pat Reaume; Christopher Sayler and seven grandchildren. He is also remembered by his longtime friend since boyhood, Al Shockley. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to9pm on Friday, March 9 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 10. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, followed by a celebration of his life at the Elks Lodge, Frederick, MD. Donations may be made in his memory to St. John's Lutheran Church, 8619 Blacks Mill Road, Thurmont 21788 or to First Tee, World Golf Village, 425 South Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092, in honor of his passion for golf.
